The construction of a new container hub is underway in the Kazakh port of Aktau, which will increase its throughput capacity to 240 thousand TEU per year. According to JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the site has completed clearing an area of 24 hectares, more than 313 thousand tons of soil have been delivered, and vertical planning work is 65% complete. More than 100 units of equipment are involved in the construction, and the work is carried out in two shifts of 12 hours each to ensure high construction dynamics.
The project includes not only the development of terminal infrastructure, but also dredging, which will increase the port’s efficiency for container shipping and rail freight. This will strengthen its role in the region’s logistics chain, as well as expand the potential for maritime transportation.
The creation of a container hub is being implemented as part of the One Belt, One Road initiative and has received the support of the governments of Kazakhstan and China. In 2024, in Xi’an, KTZ Express JSC, Lianyungang Port Group LLC and Aktau Sea Trade Port NC JSC signed the constituent documents of a joint venture to implement the project.
