CargoBeamer raises another €65 million to develop rail terminals.

CargoBeamer, a specialist in intermodal transport and freight migration from road to rail, has raised €65 million in equity and debt financing from Orion Infrastructure Capital (OIC). With €50 million previously raised from an existing shareholder and €90 million in grants from the German Federal Railway Authority and the Swiss Federal Office of Transport, the total investment over the past 12 months has reached €205 million.

CargoBeamer develops innovative logistics solutions, enabling the transport of semi-trailers by rail with an automated loading system that reduces handling time to 20 minutes – 9 times faster than at traditional terminals. Using the company’s network of routes in Germany, Italy and France, it reduces CO₂ emissions by 85% compared to diesel trucks, while also reducing congestion on the roads and the shortage of drivers. The European medium and long-haul market is estimated to reach €88 billion by 2032.

The new investment will help CargoBeamer build two state-of-the-art terminals in Kaldenkirchen, Germany and Domodossola, Italy, which will make it faster and easier to transfer road freight to rail. Construction will begin in 2025, with completion scheduled for 2026. These facilities will be the company’s second and third terminals in Europe, following the first terminal opened in Calais, France, in 2021.
