The Association of European Lessors of Rail Rolling Stock (AERRL), which brings together investors in modern cross-border rolling stock, has called for urgent action to develop rail transport in Europe.
In an open letter, the association called on European authorities to focus public investment on improving infrastructure and to abandon subsidies that could disrupt the market for the acquisition of new rolling stock. Instead, AERRL proposes to direct subsidies to the modernization of existing stock using ERTMS, FRMCS and DAC technologies.
The association also called for a coordinated implementation of the ERTMS system based on a single BL3.4 standard, which will ensure compatibility with current regulations. According to AERRL, this step will improve the efficiency and integration of rail services across Europe.
