The WS1 hybrid police boat “Bürgermeister Brauer” was ceremonially welcomed in the Port of Hamburg. After almost two years of construction at the Estonian shipyard Baltic Workboats AS, the vessel was delivered by sea to Germany. The new boat will begin service in the Hamburg Water Police next year.
The ceremony was attended by Senator for Economic Affairs and Labor Melanie Leonhard, Head of the Hamburg Port Authority Jens Meyer, CEO of Flotte Hamburg Carsten Schönewald and Deputy Chief of the Water Police Olaf Hagenloch. The 29.4-meter-long boat is equipped with an environmentally friendly hybrid engine with powerful 2 x 500 kW electric motors, which allow the vessel to move on electric traction for up to two hours at a speed of seven knots. After completing sea trials and training the crew, it will replace the outdated patrol boat.
The WS1 boat is the first stage of the renewal of the Hamburg Water Police fleet. The second hybrid boat WS3 “Bürgermeister Weichmann” will arrive at the port soon, where it will undergo testing and commissioning together with WS1. The third vessel is expected to be delivered in 2025. The new vessels are designed taking into account modern technologies and the specific requirements of the water police.
