PKP Intercity to modernise 150 carriages.

Polish national passenger transport operator PKP Intercity has signed three contracts with PKP Intercity subsidiary Remtrak worth a total of around PLN 1.5 billion (EUR 346 million) to modernise 150 carriages. The work will include upgrading 133 first and second class carriages, which will be fitted with new seats, sockets for charging devices, air conditioning, passenger information systems and fire safety systems. In addition, windows, doors and lighting are planned to be replaced.

The contractor will also modernise 17 multifunctional Combo carriages, which will be suitable for passengers with reduced mobility, as well as for transporting wheelchairs and bicycles. Thanks to the new deals, the carriages will be able to reach speeds of up to 160 km/h and will provide passengers with free access to Wi-Fi.

The contracts also provide for 23 years of maintenance of the renovated carriages, which includes PLN 400 million. Thanks to this, the total value of contracts between PKP Intercity and PKP Intercity Remtrak has grown to PLN 3 billion (approx. EUR 692 million), which will facilitate the development of the company’s factories in Libiszów, Opole and Warsaw.
