WT Terminal, a company operating in the Port of Riga, has launched a solar power plant to cover part of its electricity needs from environmentally friendly sources. 480 solar panels with a capacity of 220.8 kW have been installed on the roof of the warehouse complex. The project, which was launched in 2023 with the support of the ALTUM program and Citadele Bank, will help reduce the company’s energy dependence and increase its efficiency, especially in the energy-intensive timber processing process.

As part of its sustainable development strategy, WT Terminal plans to install an innovative hydraulic crane powered by electricity and modernize the berth power system, which will reduce emissions and the environmental impact of the terminal. This unified environmental infrastructure will increase the efficiency of the terminal and reduce its dependence on fluctuations in the electricity market.

The Port of Riga is actively developing in the direction of “green” energy: solar power plants are already operating at the terminals “Kronospan Riga” and “Baltic Container Terminal”, and a solar park is being built on the territory of “Rīgas Universālais Termināls”. Also, the largest geothermal installation in the Baltics was launched at the logistics center “TFS Trans”, which allows the use of geothermal pumps for space heating.
