Azerbaijan Railways to cut emissions by 40% by 2050.

Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways Rovshan Rustamov took part in discussions at the Climate Action Week in Baku, where he spoke about the steps being taken to combat climate change. He noted that by 2050, the company plans to reduce carbon emissions by 40%, actively expanding the use of renewable energy sources such as solar panels. Last year, Azerbaijan Railways already reduced emissions by 9%.

Further efforts will focus on the introduction of energy efficiency and electrification technologies, which will help modernize the railway infrastructure. Rovshan Rustamov also emphasized that this year the company will release its first “Sustainability Report”, which will present data on achievements in reducing emissions and increasing energy efficiency.

Particular attention was paid to the Middle Corridor, which connects Europe and Asia via Azerbaijan. This route reduces the time and cost of cargo transportation by up to 40%, contributing to accelerated and environmentally sustainable development. The creation of an International Association for the Eurasian Transport Route, which will aim to promote sustainable development along the Middle Corridor, was also discussed.
