MSC’s logistics subsidiary Medlog is acquiring Britain’s largest carrier Maritime Transport. The deal was announced by both companies, but details of the price remain confidential. Maritime Transport operates more than 30 rail routes and eight freight terminals across the UK, including Wakefield, Manchester, Tilbury and Birmingham. The company’s fleet includes more than 1,600 trucks.
According to Loadstar analyst Alessandro Pasetti, the deal could be worth between £300 million and £500 million ($400 million-$660 million). In 2023, Maritime Transport’s revenue reached £404 million, with operating profits of more than £20 million.
The company previously acquired a controlling stake in Spanish freight carrier Renfe Mercancías and acquired a stake in Italian high-speed rail operator Italo. Experts believe that Medlog may continue to expand by adding other logistics assets.
