Kazakhstan to increase cargo flow through Middle Corridor to 10 million tons by 2027.

The Government of Kazakhstan has reported on the progress in implementing the Roadmap for the Development of the Middle Corridor, which connects Kazakhstan with Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia. It is planned to increase the throughput capacity to 10 million tons of cargo per year by 2027. This initiative was a response to the Address of the President of Kazakhstan to the Nation on the modernization of the economy.

An important step in this direction was the signing of agreements between Kazakhstan and China in November 2023 on the development of the Trans-Caspian Transport Route, including China-Europe container trains. In addition, a joint venture, Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd., was created, which unites the railway administrations of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia to manage the route.

Successful integration of digital systems also contributes to improved logistics. Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan have already implemented common IT platforms to simplify customs procedures, and Georgia will join them in the future. These measures contributed to the growth of transportation volumes, which increased by 65% in 2023, confirming the effectiveness of international cooperation.
