The ports of Liepaja and Ventspils will receive financial assistance from the European Cohesion Fund in the amount of 6.8 million euros, with the possibility of increasing the amount to 8.1 million euros. The funds will be used for projects related to improving the environmental safety of port infrastructure and reducing the negative impact of harbours on the urban environment and climate.
The investments will be distributed equally between the two ports. The main focus will be on the development of shore power supply infrastructure and measures to ensure the safety of navigation. The plans include the modernisation of vessel traffic management systems, the purchase of data transmission equipment, software for the port information system, as well as the installation of navigation signs and sensors.
These measures should optimise vessel traffic, reduce emissions, noise pollution and the risk of accidents, and ensure a smoother movement of passengers and cargo. The projects are being implemented in accordance with the transport development plan for 2021–2027, aimed at achieving climate neutrality and the electrification of berths.
