At the beginning of June, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) put the first two electric trucks into operation at its Container-Transport-Dienst GmbH (CTD). These green trucks are part of HHLA’s sustainability strategy to accelerate the decarbonization of supply chains and provide customers with greener transportation solutions.

CTD will start using the new electric container transport trucks in the Port of Hamburg and will carry out extensive testing of them. The trial will collect information for HHLA to assess the feasibility of further EV procurement. Particular attention will be paid to the efficiency of truck use in the port and charging modes.

Recently named Truck of the Year 2024, Volvo FH electric trucks are renowned for their high quality and reliability. They are capable of traveling from 260 to 340 kilometers on a single charge thanks to a battery with a capacity of 540 kWh and a maximum charging power of 250 kW. Initially they will be charged using public infrastructure. HHLA is actively working to decarbonize its facilities and equipment, including the use of electric container cranes and seaplanes, and is also exploring the use of hydrogen devices within the Clean Port & Logistics cluster.
