Rhenus PartnerShip acquires DGA Shipping and expands its operations in Belgium

Rhenus PartnerShip is bolstering its competitive stance along the Rhine River, extending its reach to Belgium effective immediately. Through an internationalization approach, the inland waterway shipping expert is broadening its offerings to Antwerp and will operate as an independent entity in the Belgian market going forward. This expansion entails Rhenus acquiring full ownership of DGA Shipping.

DGA Shipping, based in Antwerp, specializes in inland waterway shipping services throughout Belgium and the ARA region, handling chartering and utilizing both internal and external cargo space, including push boats and non-motorized barges. With a focus on dry shipping for bulk commodities, general cargo, and project loads, DGA services ports within the Rhine catchment area, its tributaries, and Germany through partnerships. Rhenus’s acquisition of DGA, previously holding 45% shares, now secures full ownership, formerly held by HGK Shipping GmbH.

The move underscores Rhenus’s commitment to expanding its presence in Belgian-bound Rhine traffic, aiming for a leading position in the market. Leveraging DGA’s established network, which includes substantial transport capacity and external fleet access, Rhenus intends to capitalize on untapped potential. Importantly, the ownership transition will not impact employees or customers, with existing projects and partnerships remaining unaffected under DGA’s continued operation.
