In the first quarter of 2024, the volume of maritime cargo transportation in Kazakhstan increased 4.2 times compared to the same period of the previous year, reports the Bureau of National Statistics of Kazakhstan. According to the data, from January to March this year, about 0.654 million tons of cargo were transported by sea, which exceeds last year’s figure by 318.4%.
It is planned that the volume of cargo transportation through the sea ports of Kazakhstan this year will reach nine million tons. In the seaport of Aktau, over 1.1 million tons of cargo were handled in the first quarter, which is 14% more than a year earlier.
Regarding rail freight transportation, in January-March of this year, their volume amounted to 96.927 million tons, which is slightly lower than in the same period in 2023, by 3.5%.
