A new freight route linking China and Serbia has commenced operations, enhancing connectivity between the two regions. The route, connecting Hebei province in China with Belgrade, Serbia’s capital, is part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), aimed at strengthening ties between Europe and China.
Traversing over 10,000 kilometers, freight trains on this route are expected to reach Belgrade in twenty days. Departing from Shijiazhuang, Hebei’s dry port, this service marks the first rail connection between Hebei, Tianjin, Beijing, and Serbia, providing crucial logistics support for the BRI’s collaborative efforts. Notably, this rail link is poised to foster economic exchanges not only between China and Serbia but also with other participating countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The inaugural journey, which began on 21 of March, carries freight valued at nearly $3 million, including mechanical equipment and automotive components.
