On March 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., Jadranski pomorski servis (JPS) celebrated the expansion of its tugboat fleet with the addition of two new ships, “Moretto” and “Gea,” at the Karolina Riječka Pier. Dignitaries including Croatian Government Vice President and Minister of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure Oleg Butković attended, along with representatives from the Port of Rijeka Authority, Primorsko-Goranska County, the City of Rijeka, SCAFI Group, and JPS.
This fleet expansion, with a total investment of 20 million euros, signifies a continued commitment from the Italian SCAFI Group, which has invested 50 million euros over the past eight years in JPS. The collaboration is vital for the operation of the port system and reflects a longstanding partnership with the Port of Rijeka Authority. JPS provides essential services in ports such as Rijeka and Zadar, oil terminals in Omišalj and Bakar, as well as terminals in Plomin, Raša, and the new LNG terminal in Omišalj-Njivice on the island of Krk.
The newly added tugboats, “Moretto” and “Gea,” enhance JPS’s capabilities with their advanced features. “Moretto” boasts a towing force of 80 tons, making it the strongest tugboat in the fleet, while “Gea” offers a towing force of 70 tons. These vessels play a crucial role in escort operations, providing assistance to larger ships during maneuvers. With continuous investments and expansion, JPS aims to meet both local and regional maritime needs while solidifying its position as a significant investor and contributor to the maritime industry in Primorsko-Goranska County.
