In a groundbreaking operation at the Rhenus Deep Sea Terminal in Rotterdam, Rhenus Port Logistics Netherlands successfully managed the handling, storage, and transportation of oversized plant components destined for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for their client, Neste. This extraordinary project featured components, with one of the largest parts measuring nearly 50 meters in length, seven meters in height and width, and weighing a staggering 730 tonnes. The operation, setting a record for the terminal, required meticulous planning as the Rhenus team adapted to handle cargo of such unprecedented size, necessitating the temporary removal of various stored items to facilitate the movement of this massive unit.
While the February shipment marked a significant milestone, it was just one segment of an ongoing project. Over the next six months, vessels from Europe and South-East Asia are scheduled to continue arriving at the Rhenus terminal, collaborating with partners like Nippon Express. These shipments contribute essential components to Neste’s upcoming plant, dedicated to producing sustainable fuels derived from renewable materials, catering to the aviation sector’s growing need for eco-friendly alternatives.
