At the beginning of this year, the KTZ-Freight Transportation company held the first meeting of the operational grain headquarters with the participation of representatives of grain processors of the Union, the Association of Flour Millers of Kazakhstan and Astyk Trans JSC. The main attention was paid to organizing the transportation of grain cargo and analyzing the results of last year. In 2023, the volume of grain transportation reached 11.3 million tons, with an increase of 12.7%, exports increased by 1 million tons compared to 2022. Transportation of ground products increased by 15%, while imports of agricultural products increased by 15%.
In January 2024, a plan was approved for export transportation of 1.5 million tons, including 1.2 million tons through the Saryagash border crossing in the direction of Uzbekistan. Representatives noted an increase in the delivery of trains to Uzbekistan, but a slowdown in the acceptance of trains from China. It is important to note that last year grain transportation to China increased 3 times compared to 2022, reaching a record 2.2 million tons.
KTZ has taken measures to speed up the delivery of goods, including the purchase of 113 mainline locomotives in 2023. Currently, there are enough wagons for transporting goods in the country, but there is a surplus of empty European wagons, which complicates shunting work. Shippers highly appreciated the efficiency of KTZ in the field of transportation and close coordinated interaction on all aspects of railway logistics, especially in organizing the additional loading of goods to China.
