Brau Union Österreich and Spar have opted for an innovative multimodal strategy in collaboration with Rail Cargo Group (RCG) to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of their beverage supply chain. This approach involves both road and rail transport, starting from the Brau Union Österreich production plant in Vienna-Schwechat.
The journey begins with a preliminary truck transport, delivering beverages in Curtainsider Swap Bodies to the Vienna South terminal. The main leg of the journey includes transporting goods by single wagons to terminals near Spar distribution centers in Austria, such as the Hall terminal in Tyrol. The final stage, or the “last mile,” is managed by trucks delivering beverages to the Spar warehouse in Wörgl. Spar then distributes the products to its stores, providing them to consumers. The entire process, from order placement to delivery in Wörgl, is completed within three days.
The use of RCG’s new detachable bodies, known as Curtainsider Swap Bodies, plays a key role in these transport operations. Renowned for their multimodal capabilities, these containers bridge road and rail transport, offering universal loading and unloading from all sides, including from above. This versatility sets them apart from conventional containers and makes them suitable for various industries and goods, including chemicals and automotive products. In response to growing demand in Europe, RCG will invest in 300 new detachable bodies in 2023.
Beyond beverages, RCG provides multimodal transport services for a wide range of consumer goods across Europe, including pasta, disinfectants, sauces, pet food, electronics, and more. Transport route options are limitless, with services ranging from Germany to Italy and back, or from Hungary to Turkey and vice versa, showcasing the boundless possibilities offered by RCG’s comprehensive logistics solutions.
