Almaty’s role as a key node in global trade is set for significant enhancement with the initiation of a new logistics terminal on October 27, 2023. The project, an ambitious step to craft a contemporary platform for transport, logistics, and e-commerce services, is underway in Kazakhstan’s bustling metropolis.
This initiative is a collaborative effort between KTZ and Xian Dry Port, poised to revamp the existing cargo terminal facilities of Kedentransservice JSC, under the aegis of NC KTZ JSC. The project’s kickoff was graced by high-profile figures from NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC, alongside dignitaries from the Xian Communist Party Committee and the Xian Dry Port.
Strategically situated at the intersection of key international trade routes, Almaty is recognized as a critical transport and logistics nexus. The project’s objective is twofold: to augment the infrastructure of the cargo terminal, thereby boosting its capacity for handling and processing significant cargo volumes in its temporary storage warehouses, and to accelerate processing operations to ensure timely delivery of goods. Such enhancements are poised to answer the growing demands of the market, particularly the fast-expanding e-commerce sector.
The project envisions the establishment of a logistics complex across a 10-hectare area, featuring sophisticated warehousing solutions. These include a 1,400 square meter temperature-controlled storage area and a 36,000 square meter Class “A” warehouse designated for assorted packaged goods and e-commerce parcels. Innovative solutions, such as robotic warehousing proposed by the Chinese collaborators, are expected to modernize operations further.
Moreover, a 12,000 square meter container platform will be developed, complete with a 50-ton capacity electric gantry crane, enhancing the terminal’s handling capabilities.
By advancing this project, Kazakhstan aims to not only elevate its transit and transportation capacities but also to fortify its commercial and economic connections with China, signaling a new chapter in the region’s logistic and trade operations.
