BLS Cargo is set to acquire 10 cutting-edge Siemens “Vectron” multi-system locomotives, designated for operations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, and Belgium. These locomotives are equipped with the latest XLoad technology – a newly developed feature by Siemens Mobility.
XLoad integrates various functionalities aimed at enhancing the traction capability and efficiency of the locomotives. This innovation allows for the operation of heavier trains in single traction, eliminating the necessity for additional booster or push locomotives. Introduced by Siemens Mobility in 2022, XLoad has proven its effectiveness, following extensive testing by BLS Cargo last year.
The delivery of the new locomotives is scheduled for 2026, expanding BLS Cargo’s Vectron fleet to a total of 50 vehicles. The company had previously placed orders for a combined total of 40 locomotives from Siemens Mobility in 2015 and 2020, further solidifying its commitment to innovation and operational excellence.
