Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced key agreements reached during talks with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The leaders discussed priorities for bilateral cooperation, emphasizing the expansion of trade and economic ties. The parties agreed to increase mutual trade turnover to $1 billion, establish trading houses, and consider launching direct commercial flights.

According to Tokayev, transit and transport are gaining strategic importance, particularly the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, a key link in the North-South corridor. Over the past ten months, traffic along this route has increased by 14%, reaching 1.5 million tons. Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan continue to modernize border infrastructure, optimize tariffs, and plan to more actively utilize the ports of Aktau, Kuryk, and Turkmenbashi to increase container flows.

Special attention was paid to the prospects for international connectivity during the talks. The presidents discussed the possible construction of a railway line to South Asia via Afghanistan – a project that could expand the region’s transit capacity and strengthen the two countries’ positions on the Eurasian transport map.
