KTZ Express and Rail Cargo Austria are strengthening cooperation on the Trans-Caspian route.

A memorandum was signed in Astana between KTZ Express and the Austrian operator Rail Cargo Austria, aimed at developing multimodal transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. The parties agreed to jointly use ÖBB-Holding’s terminal infrastructure in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as expand terminal capacity in the region and beyond, which will strengthen Kazakhstan’s logistics connectivity with European markets.

On the same day, a meeting of the Kazakh-Swiss Business Council was held with representatives of 25 Swiss companies. During the meeting, a memorandum was signed extending the strategic partnership between KTZ and Stadler Rail Group, and an investment agreement was concluded between the Ministry of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan and Stadler Kazakhstan for the development of railway rolling stock production. The Swiss delegation visited the company’s plant, where serial production of railcars has been underway since April 2025.

The first carriages are expected to be delivered to KTZ’s passenger division in December 2025, and the company is expected to complete the delivery of 557 compartment and reserved seat carriages by 2030. Stadler Kazakhstan will provide maintenance for the new trains for 20 years, strengthening the production capabilities and localization of the country’s railway industry.
