Alataw Pass remains one of the key rail gateways between China and Central Asia, connecting onward to Europe via Kazakhstan. The volumes recorded in 2025 reflect sustained use of the corridor for long-distance freight movements linking Chinese inland production centres with European destinations.
According to information released by China Railway Urumqi Group (CR-Urumqi), operational measures during the year focused on train dispatching, border crossing organisation and the use of available capacity along the western CRE corridors. These measures were aimed at maintaining stable operations at the Alataw Pass crossing amid growing train flows.
