Freightliner Ltd. announced the successful completion of its acquisition by international transport and logistics group CMA CGM. The company noted that joining one of the world’s leading shipping and logistics companies marks a new stage in Freightliner’s development and strengthens its position as a leading intermodal rail operator in the UK.
Freightliner emphasized that the transaction reflects the companies’ shared strategy to create a more integrated, efficient, and sustainable intermodal offering for the UK market and international customers. Freightliner operates a network of 10 terminals, with approximately 1.4 million rail slots, a fleet of 2,000 railcars, and one of the country’s largest fleets of electric locomotives.
Freightliner will continue to operate as a standalone multi-user and multi-client intermodal operator in the UK, developing a national sustainable network and reducing CO2 emissions by thousands of tonnes. The company also clarified that Heavy Haul Rail, as well as the European assets of Rotterdam Rail Feeding and Freightliner PL and DE, will remain outside the deal and will continue to operate independently, maintaining the current ownership structure.
