Kazakhstan’s transport sector grew by 12.8% in the first quarter of 2026, with the volume of services reaching 2.9 trillion tenge.

According to the results of January–March 2026, the transport sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan demonstrated stable positive dynamics. The physical volume index amounted to 112.8%, and the volume of services rendered increased to 2.9 trillion tenge, compared to 2.4 trillion tenge for the same period last year. During this period, 239.8 million tons of freight were transported within the country, an 8% increase year-on-year, while passenger traffic increased by 9.3%, reaching 483.7 million passengers.

The implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects will ensure continued growth rates until the end of the year. In 2026, work is planned to cover 11,000 km of highways. In the railway sector, the Darbaza–Maktaaral and Moiynty–Kyzylzhar lines are expected to be completed, increasing network capacity and strengthening the country’s transit potential.

Particular attention is being paid to the development of aviation infrastructure and the renewal of the transport fleet. This year, construction of three new airports in the tourist zones of Katon-Karagay, Zaysan, and Kenderli is scheduled for completion. Nine aircraft are also planned for acquisition, three of which have already been delivered: one to Air Astana and two to SCAT Airlines. At the same time, 1,800 rolling stock units are planned for renewal, including locomotives, freight cars, and passenger cars, which will ensure the planned physical volume index of 110% is achieved by the end of 2026.
