Finnlines is expanding its service between the ports of Rosslare and Zeebrugge by introducing a second Ro-Ro ferry, the M/S Lismore, to the route. The vessel is scheduled to commence operations on May 28, complementing the M/S Finnwave, which is already serving the route. This decision stems from the sustained growth in demand for direct transport links between Ireland and mainland Europe. With the launch of this second vessel, the company will increase sailing frequency, enhance scheduling flexibility, and boost the route’s overall carrying capacity.
Finnlines noted that the Rosslare–Zeebrugge route has emerged as a vital logistics corridor for Irish industry. Through the Belgian hub, the service also provides connections to Finland, Poland, the United Kingdom, Spain, and other destinations within the Grimaldi Group network. The M/S Lismore will operate under a charter agreement; its deployment will enable the company to respond promptly to growing market demand and enhance the reliability of its transport services. The M/S Lismore has a cargo capacity of 4,076 lane meters, while the M/S Finnwave offers 4,192 lane meters. Both vessels are capable of carrying approximately 260 trailers and accommodating up to 12 drivers.
Representatives from Rosslare Europort stated that this service expansion reinforces the port’s position as Ireland’s key gateway to Europe. Port authorities emphasized that ongoing investments in infrastructure will help attract new services and operators, thereby improving supply chains for the Irish market. P&O Ferries also announced that its collaboration with Finnlines regarding the charter of the M/S Lismore will allow for more efficient utilization of the vessel without necessitating any changes to the company’s core sailing schedule.
