A new phase in the partnership between Lineas and Novelis was marked by a joint meeting in Göttingen, where both parties reaffirmed their commitment to developing reliable, efficient, and more sustainable industrial logistics in Europe. Manfred Burk, the newly appointed Country Manager for Lineas Germany, also attended the event. For Novelis, a global leader in aluminum rolling and recycling, sustainable and low-emission transport is a crucial element of the supply chain serving the automotive, aerospace, and packaging industries.
The event showcased one of the two EURO9000 locomotives that Lineas uses for operations in Germany. These locomotives combine electric and diesel traction, enabling trains to operate on both electrified and non-electrified track sections. Equipped with an electric drive system and two 950 kW diesel engines, they can switch between modes while in motion, offering flexibility on mixed-mode routes and reducing energy consumption.
The use of EURO9000 locomotives significantly increases the proportion of routes covered using electric traction, thereby reducing fuel consumption and CO₂e emissions by approximately 1,762 tonnes annually at current transport volumes. Additionally, the reliability and resilience of operations along key European corridors are enhanced. Germany remains a strategic market for Lineas as it continues to expand its international operations and strives to become Europe’s most reliable rail freight company, true to its slogan: “Count on us.”
