In the Almaty region, the establishment of a transport and logistics hub (TLH) aimed at optimizing freight transportation is in the planning stages. According to the Ministry of Transport, details of the project are actively being worked out in collaboration with the national railway company “Қazakhstan temіr zholy” and local authorities to facilitate the movement of goods along key routes.
During the first ten months of 2023, the volume of international freight transportation through Almaty increased to 54,000 tons via the TRASECA route and 212,100 tons through the Trans-Asian corridor, setting a historical record. In response to the increased load on the Almaty railway hub, construction has commenced on a bypass road around the Almaty stations, with the aim of reducing the load by 40%.
Another significant project in the region is the launch of the Big Almaty Ring Road, the first concession project in Kazakhstan’s history. Constructed in collaboration with a Turkish-Korean consortium, the road was completed ahead of schedule and will serve as a key component of the transportation framework for the Almaty metropolitan area, reducing congestion on city roads by 20%. Currently, timelines, investment volumes, and funding sources are being developed for the creation of the TLH in the region.
