Yara Clean Ammonia, Azane, and Fjord Base have received approval from the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection for the construction of an ammonia bunkering facility at Fjord Base in Florø, Norway. This milestone paves the way for the adoption of ammonia as a safe and low-emission alternative to conventional shipping fuels, addressing the final link in the supply chain from production plant to vessel.

The planned facility, featuring a floating stationary barge with a capacity of 1000 cubic meters of low-emission ammonia, will accommodate up to 416 operations annually. It is expected to primarily serve bunkering operations for offshore supply vessels frequenting Fjord Base in Florø. This initiative aligns with Yara Clean Ammonia and Azane’s broader mission to establish a network of terminals in Scandinavia, facilitating the widespread adoption of ammonia as a maritime fuel. With increasing demand for low-emission alternatives and impending grant tenders from ENOVA, the Norwegian Climate and Energy fund manager, the momentum for ammonia adoption in Norway is gaining traction. Moving forward, Yara Clean Ammonia, Azane, and Fjord Base will collaborate with project partners to secure local municipality permits and make a final investment decision.
