At the event, under the theme “Sustainable Transport for the Future”, the state railway company of Azerbaijan (CJSC “Azerbaijan Railways”) presented a report on achievements in the field of environment, social development and governance. The main focus was on the development of sustainable transport in the country, especially in the railway sector, and how the introduction of green innovations and digital technologies contributes to the achievement of decarbonization goals.
Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Emil Mammadov noted the importance of international cooperation in the field of digital innovation and Azerbaijan’s strategic vision for the development of sustainable transport. Director General of “COP29” Elnur Sultanov and Chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology of the Milli Majlis Sadig Gurbanov discussed the importance of transport in achieving global climate goals and the role of Azerbaijan in the green innovation sector.
Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways Rovshan Rustamov emphasized the key role of railways in creating a sustainable transport solution, focusing on the need to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency. At the end of the event, the company’s achievements and plans for the future were presented, including the signing of a cooperation document with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the field of decarbonization of rail transport.
