Cathay Cargo Terminal has become the first ground handler in Asia to receive the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Security Management System (SeMS) certification. The company achieved the highest level, “operational status,” in its first audit.
SeMS is a structured approach to managing risk and compliance. Cathay was praised for its clear security policy, proactive management, and compliance with international standards. According to Chief Operating Officer Mark Watts, artificial intelligence is starting to play a key role in ensuring the terminal’s security, particularly in intrusion detection and cargo monitoring.
The official presentation of the certificate will take place on April 15 at the IATA Global Cargo Symposium in Dubai. The terminal has also previously been certified by IATA for environmental standards and dangerous goods training.
