The largest Ro-Ro terminal for handling new cars has opened on the Yangtze River in China. The operator of the facility is Haitong Taicang, a joint venture between Shanghai Port International Group (SIPG), Jiangsu Port Logistics Group and Chinese auto giant SAIC Motor.
The Taicang terminal has a capacity of 1.3 million vehicles per year and covers an area of 960,000 square meters. Its 708-meter-long berth allows it to simultaneously service two Ro-Ro vessels with a deadweight of 70,000 tons and one sea car carrier. In addition, the facility is equipped with a platform for 32,000 cars and five service centers for inspection, maintenance and charging of electric cars.
