China has successfully inaugurated the first high-speed rail journey on the Jinan-Zhengzhou route, connecting the capitals of Shandong and Henan provinces. This 407 km-long high-speed rail, introduced in phases, saw the opening of the first section from Puyang to Zhengzhou for passenger service in June of last year, with construction on the second section from Jinan to Puyang (208 km) initiated in December 2019.
The new dual-track high-speed rail links 13 railway stations and is designed to facilitate trains running at speeds of up to 350 km/h. The travel time between the terminal stations has been significantly reduced to 1 hour and 43 minutes, a considerable improvement from the previous four-hour journey between the capitals. This new rail infrastructure is part of China’s extensive high-speed network, comprising eight lines in the north-south direction and eight lines in the west-east direction.
