China Railways has officially joined Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd., an international company that manages the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. The accession agreement was signed at the Second China-Europe Railway Corridor International Cooperation Forum, held in China. The accession was accomplished through China Railway Container Transport Company (CRCT).
Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd. was established in 2023 by the railways of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Georgia to coordinate the Middle Corridor – a multimodal route running through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and on to Europe. China’s accession is expected to improve management efficiency and increase capacity on this key transit route.
Amid growing transportation volumes in Kazakhstan, the second Dostyk-Moiynty railway line was launched this year, which will increase freight transit from China to Europe fivefold. The new partnership with China is seen as an important step in accelerating the development of the entire Trans-Caspian Corridor.
