The construction of the state-of-the-art Antwerp Coordination Centre (ACC), which will be the key point for managing port operations, has officially started in the Zandvliet-Berendrecht lock area. The facility is scheduled to open by the end of 2026. The eight-storey, 8,000 m², 46-metre-high building will replace the outdated centre from the 1970s. It will house teams of pilots, lock operators and other specialists, ensuring the coordination of the 274,000 shipping operations registered at the port in 2023.
The new ACC will be energy neutral, completely eliminating the use of fossil fuels. Geothermal systems and solar panels will be used for heating and cooling, and zero CO2 emissions will be achieved thanks to innovative technologies. The building will also feature green roofs, rainwater collection and recycling systems, and 10,000 m² of eco-friendly open spaces will help preserve biodiversity. In addition to operational functions, the centre will include educational and recreational areas, as well as a visitor centre with a viewing terrace and panoramic views of the port. The project is being implemented by the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in collaboration with MDK and leading architects and contractors. Once opened, the centre will not only be a logistics hub, but also an educational one, strengthening the port’s status as a global leader.
