DHL Express and DHL Global Forwarding are strengthening their environmental commitment by extending their contract with IAG Cargo, the cargo division of the International Aviation Group (IAG). Under the new agreement, DHL will use an additional 60 million litres of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in 2024 and 2025, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 165,000 tonnes of CO2e.

The agreement will be the largest SAF contract between an airline and a customer, underlining DHL’s leadership in sustainable air freight. The annual emissions reduction is comparable to taking a Boeing 747-400 freighter out of service on DHL’s intercontinental flights between the UK and the US.

The SAF used is ISCC-certified and is made from recycled materials such as used cooking oil and food waste. It reduces emissions by 80% compared to traditional aviation fuel and will be primarily supplied to London Heathrow Airport.
