The LUKA.DT project concluded in March after a successful two-year collaboration among six consortium partners, including Luka Koper, Actual IT, Emigma, Špica International, Igea, and Solvesall. With a focus on enhancing key port processes, the EUR 4.8 million initiative, co-funded with EUR 2.1 million from the European Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), introduced advanced digital solutions and bolstered employee digital competences and cybersecurity measures.
The project’s impact extends beyond process optimization, encompassing environmental benefits through reduced fuel consumption and emissions resulting from streamlined freight movements. Moreover, the transition to paperless operations minimized raw material consumption, contributing to operational savings and enhanced energy efficiency objectives.
Structured into three phases, the project involved the development of a digital strategy, implementation of solutions across various business functions, and training sessions to reinforce digital competences. Solutions spanned five thematic clusters, incorporating artificial intelligence for decision-making, big data-driven data warehousing, 3D modeling for enhanced security, advanced warehouse management systems, and digitization of service chains, exemplified by mobile applications for truck arrival notifications and integration platforms for optimizing train transport operations like Luka Rail.
