Freight and passenger transportation in Kazakhstan is showing steady growth.

Since the beginning of 2025, Kazakhstan has recorded an 8.1% increase in freight traffic by all modes of transport compared to the same period last year. From January to November, the country’s transport system transported 1.056 billion tons of freight, with total freight turnover reaching 522.4 billion tonne-kilometers, an 11.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Passenger traffic also increased by 11.9% to 1.764 billion passengers, with passenger turnover increasing by 7.6% to 81.5 billion passenger-kilometers.

Rail transport remains a key segment of freight transportation. During the reporting period, 420.7 million tons of freight were transported by rail, an increase of 7.7% compared to the previous year. Freight turnover increased by 7.4% to 318.5 billion tonne-kilometers. Rail passenger traffic carried 17.8 million passengers, with passenger turnover reaching 14.6 billion passenger-kilometers.

Sea transport traditionally demonstrates the most dynamic growth. From January to November 2025, sea freight volume increased by 41.4% to 3,625,700 tonnes. Sea freight turnover reached 1,680.2 million tonne-kilometers, a 15.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
