International transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss ended the 2024 financial year with net revenue of €2.71 billion, up 10% compared to 2023 (€2.46 billion). The growth was driven mainly by investments in the transport network, automation and digitalization. In the Air & Sea segment, the company recorded the largest increase in revenue – €939 million (+21%), due to the expansion of the network in the US and Germany, the growth of trans-Pacific trade volumes and the increase in sea freight rates from China to Europe. However, the attacks in the Red Sea forced container ships to bypass Africa via the Cape of Good Hope, which affected logistics times.
The land transport and logistics segment brought in €1.52 billion (+5%). This figure includes sales of the Home Delivery service, which delivers large items such as household appliances and furniture to end consumers in Austria and Eastern Europe. The company’s part-owned delivery service DPD Austria handled 63.2 million parcels, 1 million more than in 2023. In a volatile economy, Gebrüder Weiss continues to invest: €124 million in infrastructure development in 2024, including logistics centers, automated warehouses and IT projects.
The company is actively developing environmentally friendly technologies. In 2024, additional solar panels were installed in Hungary and Slovakia, increasing the total number of photovoltaic systems to 34, which covers half of Gebrüder Weiss’s energy consumption. Thanks to this, CO2 emissions were reduced by 2,738 tons. The share of electric vehicles in the company’s fleet is increasing – e-trucks are already in use in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Croatia and Romania, and 13 more electric trucks will be added to Austria in 2024. In addition, part of the fleet was converted to HVO biofuel, which reduces CO2 emissions by 90%.
