Georgian Railways is preparing to build a railway line to the deep-water port of Anaklia.

Georgian Railway JSC plans to announce a tender soon and begin construction of a new railway line that will provide a direct connection to the planned deep-water port of Anaklia on the Black Sea coast. The company’s CEO, Lasha Abashidze, announced the decision, emphasizing the project’s strategic importance for the development of the country’s transport infrastructure.

The project includes the construction of new railway lines and the creation of an electrification overhead line, which will integrate the future line into Georgia’s existing railway network. Furthermore, a modern freight station is planned, directly connected to Anaklia’s port infrastructure and focused on handling freight traffic passing through the Black Sea region.

According to the company’s estimates, the project’s implementation and commissioning of the new railway infrastructure will take approximately two to two and a half years. The construction of a railway approach to the port of Anaklia should increase Georgia’s transit potential and strengthen its role in international logistics corridors between Europe and Asia.
