Grimaldi Group receives first of seven new hauliers.

The Grimaldi Group has taken delivery of the Grande Tianjin, the first of seven clean car carriers (PCTC) ordered from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. The 9,241-vehicle (ceu) vessel, equipped with ammonia and shore power, will be launched on the East Asia – Northern Europe route in mid-August, carrying an initial consignment of 1,000 electric SUVs.

The Grande Tianjin is 200 m long and 38 m wide, and can carry wheeled vehicles weighing up to 250 t. The new design complies with strict environmental standards for CO₂, NOx and SOx emissions, reducing them per unit of cargo by up to 50% compared to previous generations. The delivery marks the 600th vessel for SWS and is the latest step in Grimaldi’s partnership with Chinese automaker Leapmotor, which began in 2022.

“Grande Tianjin” is the first of 17 ammonia-ready carriers that Grimaldi plans to receive by 2027. The new series will allow the company to expand its global shipping footprint and improve fleet efficiency.
