Germany’s only deep-water port, JadeWeserPort in Wilhelmshaven, presented its logistics capabilities at the Port of Enns on the Danube. The event, organized jointly with TFG Transfracht, Nordfrost, Eurogate and the Enns Container Terminal, showed Austrian shippers the port’s potential for handling large vessels and developing multimodal routes.

Wilhelmshaven has long been connected to Enns and Salzburg by regular container trains. With a berth depth of up to 18 meters, the port can accommodate ocean-going container ships with a capacity of more than 23,000 TEU, excluding tides. Today, its capacity is only 70% utilized, despite regular calls from major shipping companies including Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd.

Since the beginning of the year, the port has been servicing vessels of the Gemini Cooperation alliance (Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk), which has significantly strengthened its position on the Asia-Europe and Europe-North America routes. The Eurogate terminal occupies 130 hectares and is capable of handling up to 2.7 million TEU per year, with 10 container cranes, an intermodal terminal and 40 block trains to European countries.

In response to growing demand, Eurogate is investing in the expansion and digitalization of processes. According to representatives of Hapag-Lloyd and Transfracht, JadeWeserPort has already become the second most important port in Northern Europe, and the increase in cargo flows through the Austrian terminals of Enns and Salzburg strengthens this direction as a stable and promising logistics corridor.
