The XXXIII meeting of the Joint Commissions of Border Railways of Kazakhstan and China was held in Urumqi (PRC). The participants summed up the work of railway crossings between the two countries for the first nine months of 2024 and discussed transportation plans until the end of the year. Preliminary volumes of freight traffic for 2025 and the freight train schedule for 2024-2025 were also agreed upon.

The meeting discussed the modernization of the Alashankou and Dostyk border stations, as well as the construction of second tracks on the Dostyk-Moiynty section. These measures are aimed at increasing the capacity of the railways.

The parties agreed to increase the volume of freight traffic after the completion of infrastructure work in 2025. China expressed its readiness to increase the acceptance of export cargo. Following the meeting, a protocol was signed.
