Kazakhstan and Guoyou Materials Group are discussing the construction of the Kurik port hub on the Caspian Sea.

Kazakhstan is developing a large-scale infrastructure project that is expected to significantly enhance the transit potential of the Middle Corridor. Asset Tuyakbayev, Director of the Project Department of JSC NC KAZAKH INVEST, held a working meeting with the management of the Chinese company Guoyou Materials Group, during which the parties discussed the prospects for the construction of the multifunctional Kuryk port complex on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea. The project is seen as a key element in the formation of a sustainable multimodal chain along the China-Caspian-Caucasus-Europe route.

The Kuryk port complex is planned to be developed as a modern transshipment cluster utilizing advanced technological and digital solutions, including cargo flow management systems, a TOS platform, and EDI integration, as well as the development of rail and road infrastructure. The first phase of the project is estimated to handle up to 180,000 TEU of containerized cargo per year, up to 180,000 vehicles, and 2-3 million tons of bulk cargo, which will diversify the product range and increase the throughput of the Caspian route.

Investment in the first phase of the project could reach approximately $300 million, with total investment after completion of all phases reaching up to $1.1 billion. Up to 800 permanent jobs and up to 1,500 temporary ones are expected to be created during construction, which is scheduled to begin this year and be operational in 2028. KAZAKH INVEST emphasizes that the development of port and logistics infrastructure is a priority for the country’s investment policy and will allow Kazakhstan to strengthen its position in transit between Asia and Europe.
