According to Vice Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov, over the past five years, the volume of transportation along the TITR has increased sixfold – from 0.8 million tons in 2020 to 4.5 million tons in 2024. In 2024, cargo traffic increased by 62%, container transportation – by 2.7 times, and in the first half of 2025, the figure reached 2.3 million tons, which is 7% higher than last year’s level. The growth was facilitated by the automation of customs procedures: the clearance of one container train now takes only 30 minutes instead of the previous three hours.
Key projects include the launch of a container terminal in Aktau port jointly with China, the operation of Kazakhstan’s dry port in Xi’an, the construction of new terminals in Selyatino, Svisloch and near Budapest, as well as the opening of the first national multimodal terminal in the Georgian port of Poti in June. An important step was the start of the movement of Chinese road trains along the Trans-Caspian route: almost 3.5 thousand trucks passed through the port of Kuryk in 2024, and more than a thousand in the first half of 2025.
