Kazlogistics and BCG discussed the development of rail transit through Kazakhstan.

On October 8, a working meeting between the Kazakhstan Transport Workers’ Union “Kazlogistics” and representatives of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) was held in Astana. The main topic of discussion was the development of rail transit through Kazakhstan and the elimination of systemic constraints hindering freight traffic growth.

The parties addressed key challenges, including the shortage of rolling stock and platforms operated by KDTS and KTZ Express, which leads to delays and train downtime. Participants discussed the possibility of attracting rolling stock from private and foreign operators, as well as the need to expand terminal capacity and increase the number of locomotives. Special attention was paid to staffing and border crossing capacity.

Particular emphasis was placed on the digitalization of document flow and the reduction of paperwork in transit operations, especially between EAEU countries and partners outside the union. Experts believe that in the coming years, the growth of transit traffic will be constrained by infrastructure bottlenecks and differences in standards. Kazlogistics and BCG agreed to continue working together on measures to improve the efficiency and sustainability of transit through Kazakhstan.
