Lineas launched the first ever road train in the port of Ostend.

Rail operator Lineas, together with the Port of Ostend, has brought a road train into the port area for the first time, marking the return of block trains after a 15-year break. This marks a major milestone in the transformation of the port and is the result of a year and a half of work with infrastructure operator Infrabel to restore rail capacity.

The port is investing in modernising signalling, handling infrastructure and track infrastructure, with a focus on sustainable multimodal logistics. Lineas trains will operate up to three times a week, connecting Ostend with various points across Europe. Operations will be carried out at night to improve efficiency.

The resumption of rail freight services strengthens the Port of Ostend’s position as a key logistics hub in Flanders, offering a full range of solutions at the intersection of road, water and rail.
