LTG Infra, the LTG Group company responsible for implementing the international Rail Baltica project in Lithuania, held a meeting with the management of Italy’s Rizzani de Eccher, the general contractor for the railway bridge across the Neris River. The discussion focused on the current status of construction and the contractor’s financial situation. According to Vytis Žalimas, CEO of LTG Infra, the company has been closely monitoring both the project’s progress and the contractor’s financial situation, particularly since 2023, when the first public reports of Rizzani de Eccher’s restructuring emerged. LTG Infra is engaging in dialogue to ensure the continuity of work and reduce tensions among project participants, including by exploring legal mechanisms for direct payments to subcontractors, if necessary.

Despite challenging weather conditions, the project is making significant progress. By the end of 2025, half of the total construction work on the 1.51-kilometer bridge – the longest railway bridge in the Baltics – will have been completed. 376 piles have already been installed, 11 piers have been concreted, and construction of the superstructure has begun. Due to prolonged extreme cold temperatures, work on site has been temporarily slowed, but contractors are taking measures to minimize the impact of the winter period and are ready to resume full construction once weather conditions improve. LTG Infra emphasizes that the construction deadline for the Neris bridge does not affect the overall Rail Baltica schedule in Lithuania, and the project will be completed using all required legal instruments and guarantees.

The bridge is being constructed using complex engineering solutions: in accordance with Natura 2000 environmental protection requirements, the piers are not located in the riverbed. Three technologies are being used to construct the superstructure: sliding scaffolds, suspended concrete pouring, and a longitudinal sliding system. Rizzani de Eccher specializes in large-scale and technically complex infrastructure projects, including bridges and viaducts. Rail Baltica is a strategic project for LTG Group and the European Union and the largest railway infrastructure project in the history of the Baltic states. Upon completion, it will create an electrified standard gauge line connecting Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia with Central and Western Europe, strengthening regional integration, civilian and military mobility, and the sustainability of the transport system.
