Maersk continues its transition to green transportation by expanding the use of electric trucks for container transportation. One of the first customers in Denmark to sign up for this service was the engineering company Grundfos. Since October 2024, Grundfos containers have been delivered by electric trucks between the plant and the port of Aarhus, with the future volume planned to increase to 600-800 containers per year.

Electric transportation remains a major challenge for logistics. Electric trucks are three times more expensive than diesel ones, have a limited range, and the charging infrastructure is still poorly developed. In addition, electric transportation requires additional costs that customers must be prepared to compensate. Despite the difficulties, Maersk intends to actively promote environmentally friendly solutions.

Grundfos has long been collaborating with Maersk in the field of sustainable logistics. Since 2020, the company has switched to shipping entirely on low-carbon fuels, including biodiesel and biomethanol, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% compared to traditional marine fuels. The addition of electric trucks to the supply chain eliminates tailpipe emissions entirely, as the vehicles are charged exclusively with renewable energy sources.
