The Department of Transport of the Republic of Latvia is strengthening its collaborative efforts with Kazakhstan in the maritime transport sector. Uldis Reimanis, Deputy Minister of Transport of Latvia, visited the port of Aktau, where he was received by the Acting President of the port, Amir Atambaev. The visit focused on discussions about the port’s infrastructure capabilities and detailed insights into prospective investment projects for development.

In the medium-term plans, there is a goal to expand the port’s capacity by increasing the infrastructure capabilities for oil transshipment to 20 million tons annually. Additionally, plans include the development of domestic shipbuilding on the Caspian Sea and the expansion of the ferry and tanker fleet by 2030. The dynamic growth of the Trans-Caspian Transport Route opens opportunities for the involvement of Baltic companies in expanding transportation flows, as evidenced by the recent inclusion of the Lithuanian company LTG Cargo in the TMTM Association at the latest assembly held in Aktau.
